Record Breaking Weekend

2 years ago By Craig Gealy

This weekend in the league, we have seen some impressive wins in our all-divisional matches – with a team in Division 2 pushing for a record-breaker with this week’s score.

Division 1 sees The Vale move right up the table into third place on goal difference, after a brilliant 7-0 home win over White Swan. After leading 2-0 at half time, The Vale then went on to score five more goals in the second half – allowing them to take the win. Scorers were Wade Lees, Jack Craig, Luke Britton, Marcus Eaton and Damian Davey – with a brace from David Bannister helping them along. Radford add to their leading score by winning 6-2 at home this weekend against Lord Nelson. Goals from Luke Dawkins and Leon Isaac were just not enough for Lord Nelson to gain the victory – goals from Warren Kenton, Adam Pemberton, Callum Conway, Nicholas Weaver and Shawn Evans, combined with an unfortunate own goal allowed Radford to come away victorious.

In Division 2, Clifton United now settle comfortably in second position in the divisional table, after a 3-0 home win over Friar Tuck – with this solid performance seeing their 100% winning streak continue. Clifton were dominant from start to finish, and created a host of chances. Dan Martin opened the scoring by rounding the defender and striking into the corner. Second half was one way traffic - with great work from Martin and Horsley opening up the defence, allowing Scott Riddle to slot home the ball from close range. The third was a long punt up the field by Dan Smith - a good bounce deceived the 7ft keeper, and the ball nestled soundly into the back of the net. A solid performance by Clifton sees their 100% winning streak continue. Medina edge into the lead after an outstanding win of 17-0 over visitors Toton Hill! Scorers include David Hickman, Yusuf Mozley, Adonai Scarlett, Jak Orton and Paul Hunt. Hat tricks from both Saleem Mozley and Dean Hickman set the scene for a big win, however an amazing six goals scored by Edward Smyth set him in good stead for the Golden Boot trophy at the end of the season. Eastwood Community also rise by two places, to third this week, after winning 7-1 away against Arnold Victory. Eastwood ran Arnold riot, scoring five goals in the first half. Goals include braces from Adam Hassle, Connor Mee and Jez Bailey – all combined with a wonder goal from Tom Budd. Arnold's scorer, Trevor Walters, gave a great goal - right into the top corner of the net. Dowlings pick up their scoring after a 5-0 home win over Southbank – with goals from Rhodri Williams, Alex Winkler and Tony Ayton, with a brace coming from Barney Watson. Finally, Reckitt Benckiser and visiting side Notts United were all tied up at 2-2 this weekend – after RB being 2-0 up at half time. Scorers for RB were Dale Hayes and Richard Fox, whereas Callum Cossey scored for Notts, alongside the team benefitting from an own goal.

In Division 3, all the teams are fighting for the top spot, and we see a close call in the table. However, FC Galaxy continue their reign at the top, after a 7-2 away victory over Beeston Hornets. Jake Dickerson and Joe Nottingham fought well for the Hornets, being ably assisted by Tom Caine and Sam Ablott, however goals from Nikki Aitken (2), Adam Denning and Alex Thornley set FC Galaxy up for a win. Gremio received a brilliant win at home this weekend – 4-0 over Nuthall County, leaving them sitting just one win behind the leaders, hence putting the pressure on for the teams. The first goal was taken by Saul Sanders, with a good finesse shot into the corner. Gremio then went 2-0 up with a superb assist from Paul Langley, chipping it over two players, allowing Jai Makanji to drive the ball into the bottom corner. Not long before half time, Gremio got their third with a rebound off the bar for Adam Sanders to then take advantage of some slack defending. The second half was end to end, but Gremio rounded off the scoring when they were handed a penalty from a handball in the area. Jai Makanji cooly placed it into the top right corner, giving him a brace, and rounding off the game in Gremio's favour. FC Eagle move up into third place, after winning 7-2 away over Athletico Rangers. Even with goals from Marcus Young and Paul Swift, the Rangers could not concede the victory. Beeston Mariners finally begin to win, after this week’s result of 4-2 playing away against Sports Direct. With Ashley Severn and Chris Oliver hitting home for SD, an unfortunate own goal allowed the Mariners to have a chance at winning. With goals coming from Joe Duffy, Liam Hemsley and Jordan Brooks, the Mariners were able to clinch the victory. Finally, in their fourth attempt at a win, Duke of St Albans finally succeed – with an outstanding comeback of 7-1 at home against Scorpion United FC – bringing them up four places in the table. Jack Sheldon scored in the second half, however six outstanding goals coming from Connor Scott showed all players played extremely well – deserving all the praise. As the team assisted Connor and Jack all the way, Duke of St Albans did superbly as a result. Scorpion United played well also, with a great goal from Dean Boden. The Dukes came out of nowhere to finally gain a win on home ground - well done to the whole team!
